Bad Teef

When I tell people I'm having an operation, they quite often ask "Why? Your face looks fine."

Below see two pictures to illustrate the problems with my jaw.



1. Bad teef

None of my teeth in the front meet up properly. You can see that the teeth in my upper jaw (the maxillæ) are pretty symmetrical to my face, but the lower jaw (the mandible) has pushed over to one side. This makes chewing difficult and biting into food with my incisors is pretty much a no-go.


2.Wonky Jaw

You can see the inbalance in my face from this picture. My jaw tries to compensate for my teeth not meeting so my left jaw joint (temporomandibular) is under a lot of extra stress and sometimes aches and pops. This also gives me headaches sometimes.


Hopefully after the treatment (braces and then an operation) my face will regain it's symmetry and I will be able to eat properly again. My worst fear is that I have the operation and then I relapse, which can happen in these cases. I am also not looking forward to wearing braces again (I had them once as a teenager). I'm not scared of the actual operation, as the team who will work with me are very experienced in these operations, I am not looking forward to the recovery! Liquid food for a good few weeks for me!

Because my problem is skeletal rather than dental. While an Invisalign can move teeth it can't restructure bone.

Lara, you don't need to do anything with your mouth. It looked great the other night when I saw you.

Mira, if it wasn't to take away pain and give you the ability to chew properly I'd suggest leaving your mouth alone too, it's uniqueness (let's make up words as I know there can't be differing degrees of being unique) gives it an endearing and attractive quality.

I plan to suck crisps until they just slide down into my gullet...!!!

My hair is straightened to fvxkjiggery with a secondhand GHD hair straightener and goes all messy at the end :)

I always lick all the flavour off crisps - which is the most enjoyable part of 'eating' crisps, I reckon.. so maybe I wouldn't miss them so much. I'll just lick my way through a big bag of Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations or Sea Salt 'n' Balsamic Vinegar Kettle chips.

when I had braces I used to have to eat lots of soup and noodles. I found a cup of hot tea was really soothing too ~ it worked for me ^^;

As always, do what makes you happy.

After seeing your picture (Teef and all) I
have to say that you are one attractive young
lady regardless. If braces and an operations
help your face look more natural and thus allow
you to chew properly, then go for it.

I guess what I mean is even without the modification
that you indicate - You're still beautiful to Kelly
and I.

*Had to add Kelly so that your tons of male fans
don't try to hunt me down* ;^)

Well Charlie's a bit useless and never told me about all this!
I had an op like that...well it involved braces and liquid food but the jaw movement was different...but still kinda the same!
It hurts, but it is worth it!
